Advocate is designed to collect as little information as possible. Here is exactly what happens when you use each feature:
| Feature | What you enter | Where it goes | Stored on our servers? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visit Script Generator | Symptoms, specialist type, patient name, goals | Sent to Anthropic API to generate script; displayed in browser | โ No |
| Lab Tracker | Uploaded lab PDF or image, lab values | Sent to Anthropic API for extraction; displayed in browser; optionally saved to your device via localStorage | โ No |
| Credibility Document | Diagnoses, symptoms, treatment history, patient name | Sent to Anthropic API; displayed in browser | โ No |
| IEP & 504 Prep | Student name, diagnoses, school name, accommodations | Sent to Anthropic API; displayed in browser | โ No |
| ER Prep Card | Patient info, diagnoses, medications, allergies, contacts | Sent to Anthropic API; displayed and saved locally on your device | โ No |
| Saved Scripts & Contacts | Generated documents, doctor contact info | Saved to your device's localStorage only | โ No |
| Find Specialists | Your address or ZIP code, specialty search | Sent to Anthropic API to generate results | โ No |
On your device (localStorage): When you save scripts, contacts, lab results, or ER cards, that data is stored in your browser's localStorage โ a secure storage area on your own phone or computer. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it (by copying, printing, or emailing). Clearing your browser data or uninstalling the app will delete it.
In your browser session: Information you enter into forms exists temporarily in your browser while you use the app. When you close the tab or browser, it is gone unless you saved it.
We do not use cookies for tracking. We may use minimal session cookies for basic app functionality, but we do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or analytics that identify you personally.
MedAdvocate's AI features are powered by our AI provider. When you use any AI-powered feature in MedAdvocate, the text you enter is transmitted to our AI provider's API to generate a response.
What this means for your privacy:
Advocate does not retain, log, or store the content of your AI interactions on our servers. We do not see what you type into our tools.
Our recommendation: Do not include full Social Security numbers, insurance ID numbers, or complete birthdates in combination with full names when using AI features. Use first names or initials when possible. The AI works just as well with "Emma, age 9" as with a full legal name and birthdate.
Advocate is a preparation and communication tool. It helps you organize information, prepare questions, and communicate more effectively with healthcare providers and school staff. It does not diagnose conditions, recommend treatments, or interpret lab results as medical conclusions.
Lab results: AI-generated explanations of lab values are educational in nature and are intended to help you understand and discuss results with your doctor โ not to replace that conversation.
IEP & 504 content: Legal frameworks, accommodation suggestions, and pushback scripts generated by Advocate are based on general federal law and are intended to help you prepare for meetings. They do not constitute legal advice. For complex disputes, consult a special education attorney or advocate.
Always seek professional guidance for medical, legal, and financial decisions. In a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) applies to covered entities โ healthcare providers, health plans, and their business associates. Advocate is not a covered entity under HIPAA. We are a consumer productivity application, similar to a notes app or word processor.
However, we recognize that the information you use in Advocate is sensitive. Our entire design philosophy is built around minimizing data exposure:
If you have specific compliance requirements โ for example, if you are a healthcare professional using Advocate for patient-facing workflows โ please contact us to discuss your needs before using the app in that context.
Because we do not store your data on our servers, most traditional "data deletion requests" don't apply โ there is nothing for us to delete. Your control over your data is direct:
| Right | How to exercise it |
|---|---|
| Delete your locally saved data | Clear your browser's localStorage or site data in your browser settings. On iPhone: Settings โ Safari โ Advanced โ Website Data. On Android: Chrome Settings โ Site Settings โ Storage. |
| Stop AI processing | Simply don't use AI-powered features. The app's forms and print features work without sending data to any server. |
| Export your data | Use the Print or Copy buttons on any generated document to save your information outside the app. |
| California residents (CCPA) | You have the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information. Contact us at the address below for any CCPA requests. |
| EU/UK residents (GDPR) | You have rights of access, rectification, erasure, and portability. Contact us to exercise these rights. Note that because we do not store health data on our servers, most requests will be fulfilled by clearing your local browser data. |
Advocate is designed for use by parents and caregivers โ adults advocating on behalf of their children. The app is not directed at children and is not intended to be used directly by anyone under 18.
When you enter health information about your child into Advocate, you are doing so as their parent or legal guardian. You control that information, and it is stored on your device.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us directly, please contact us immediately.
Advocate uses HTTPS encryption for all data transmitted between your browser and our servers, and between our servers and Anthropic's API. This means data in transit is encrypted.
Data stored in your browser's localStorage is subject to the security of your device. We recommend:
If you discover a security vulnerability in Advocate, please report it to us immediately at the contact below. We take security reports seriously and will respond promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes โ particularly anything that increases the amount of data we collect or how we use it โ we will:
โข Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
โข Post a notice on the Advocate home screen for 30 days
โข If you have provided an email address, notify you directly
Your continued use of Advocate after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. If you don't agree with changes, you can stop using the app and clear your local data at any time.
If you have questions about this privacy policy, want to exercise your data rights, or have a security concern, please reach out. We are a small team built by medical moms, and we read every message.
